How I organize road trip stops before opening Waze
Last updated: June 3, 2026
My simple road trip workflow for saving fuel stops, viewpoints, hotels, parking, and backup locations before starting car navigation.
For road trips, I like Waze for actual driving, but I do not want Waze to be my only planning tool. Before a longer drive, I save the important stops in My Saved Places: fuel, hotel, parking, viewpoints, lunch ideas, and backup addresses.
Then Waze can do what it is good at: navigation, traffic, alerts, and getting me to the next destination.
I save backup places before I need them
A road trip gets easier when backup places are already saved. If the first parking spot is full or a restaurant is closed, I do not want to start searching from zero while sitting in the car.
Having a few saved alternatives makes the route feel calmer. It is not overplanning; it is removing panic from the moment.
The saved place stays useful after the trip
Some road trip stops become places I want to remember later. A good viewpoint, a reliable hotel, a quiet cafe near a highway. If they are saved properly, they become part of my personal map instead of disappearing after one drive.
